During a motocross outing with friends, the photographer made a stop along the way to capture the breathtaking beauty of the rice fields in Tabanan, located in the southwest of Bali. Before him stretched a stunning landscape, with the famous terraced rice fields, a remarkable heritage of the island. In the distance, the majestic Mount Batukaru can be seen, Bali’s second highest volcano, rising to 2,270 meters. Still active, Batukaru is surrounded by dense tropical forest and is considered sacred by locals.

For J. Maruche, this photo represents the very idea one might have of Bali — or how one would describe a Balinese landscape to someone who has never been there. He chose to print the image in black and white to give it a mystical and vintage feel, referencing an older Bali, still untouched by the island’s massive development.

That day, lost in the Balinese jungle, J. Maruche wanted to share this moment with all lovers of Bali and create a unique souvenir for Club Pantai Bali.
